2019 Chinese New Year Celebration

The 2019 Chinese New Year Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 26th, featuring Chinese cultural performances brought by our friends and families in Tri-Cities as well as a Chinese New Year Dinner Party.

The annual Chinese New Year Celebration is held by Tri-Cities Chinese American Association (TCCAA), with the support of many people. It is the biggest event of the year for the Chinese community in Tri-Cities and has become a signature event around the area.

With 2018 as the year of dog, we are welcoming the year of pig in 2019, which is the last animal in the Chinese Zodiac. The Chinese Zodiac, also called the twelve “Shengxiao” in Chinese, is a traditional Chinese way to count the years. It is based on a twelve-year cycle, and each year is related to an animal sign within the cycle. The way it is calculated is according to Chinese Lunar Calendar, which makes it a unique culture among Chinese people. To celebrate the year of pig, Tri-Cities Chinese Language School will be performing a short play called “Twelve Shengxiao” to introduce the story of Chinese Zodiac. Moreover, there will be traditional Chinese music and dance performances, as well as Chinese calligraphy exhibition and some interactive activities for all participants to experience the culture and enjoy the atmosphere of Chinese New Year.

The TCCAA Chinese New Year Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at Chief Joseph Middle School Auditorium. There will be a Chinese New Year Dinner Party at 4:30 pm, and the reception and performances will start at 6:30 pm. TCCAA invites everyone in Tri-Cities to join this event and celebrate Chinese New Year together!
